What products are available online from Sun?

Sun offers a large selection of hardware systems which you can view, configure and purchase online. In addition, to enhance your existing Sun systems, spare parts and system options are available to purchase as well.

What pricing is available online?

Pricing displayed online is US list price. For programs such as, Sun Startup Essentials and Sun Development Hardware, the pricing reflected online is the program pricing . Sun contracted customers who have contract pricing, may purchase at their applicable discount from their Sun sales representative or Authorized Sun reseller.

2. Quoting

How do I quote?

Online quoting has changed. You can still view and configure hardware systems online, as well as email that product information to yourself or others. However, saving the configuration as a quote will no longer be possible.

Emailing Carts

If you just want to email the product configuration information that you were working on to yourself or others, you may do so by clicking on the Email Cart button in the cart. These emails are not saved and cannot be retrieved for use at a later time.

How long does my cart stay active?

Items placed in your Shopping Cart or Quote Cart stay there for 15 days or until you request a quote or complete the purchase. If your session is inactive for more than 30 minutes, your purchase session will timeout.

How do I cancel or change my order?

To cancel or change part or all of an order, call, fax, or email a request to Sun and include in the request your sales order or transaction (Example: 2345671) number. If Sun has not yet shipped the order, the request may be processed. A confirmation will be sent via email or through an order acknowledgment.

Can I save and modify shipping and billing addresses??

You can enter and save addresses you use regularly during purchases by using the New Shipping or Billing Address radio button. These saved addresses will then be available during the checkout process. Select the Change Address link to modify any existing address. Both the radio button and link can be found on the shipping and billing page.

How do I view my online order history?

The Order History link in the right navigation box lets you view the details of past online store orders. Only orders placed online will appear. You must be logged in to access the previously placed orders.

How do I check the status of my order?

Order status will be sent automatically to the email address of the person who placed the order. These emails will come during the various cycles in Sun's ordering system.

When will my order be delivered?

Once an order has been placed online and processed in Sun's ordering system you will receive order status emails that will provide a time-frame of when your order will be delivered.

Unless a partial shipment is requested, orders are shipped with the longest lead time. Contact a Sun representative, 1-800-SUN-0404, to arrange partial shipment. Include the online transaction number (Example: 2345671) of your order in all correspondence.

How do I return a product or get a replacement?

Although all sales are final, situations may arise where a return for credit is warranted. All returns must have a Returns Material Authorization (RMA) number.

To begin the process of receiving a Return Material Authorization number, email store-oa@sun.com with your customer information as well as your transaction (Example: 2345671) or invoice number. Sun will send an email with the RMA number and shipping instructions within one business day of receiving the request. Credit will be issued once Sun has received the items being returned.

What payment methods does Sun use?

To pay for an order, choose one of the following methods:

  • Credit card
  • Purchase order
  • P-card Level 2 (Customer Purchasing Card)
Credit Card

To use this payment option, select the type of credit card, enter the credit card number and expiration date in the appropriate field at check out. You will also need to enter the Security Code for a credit card which appears on the back of the card. It is usually a 3-digit number. Select What's This? link next to the Security Code field to see more information about finding your credit card security code.

P-card Level 2 (Customer Purchasing Card)

This option is the same as a credit card purchase but requires a Customer Cost Code. This is a unique transaction number, similar to a purchase order number which will enable you to reconcile your accounts.

Purchase Order

To use this payment option, first select the Purchase Order option, then enter a company purchase order number in the appropriate field.

If your order is over U.S. $10,000 and you are using the purchase order payment option, Sun must receive a hardcopy of the purchase order before the order will ship. Purchase orders can be sent into Sun via fax or mail:

What are Sun's payment terms?

Sun's payment terms are NET 30 days from the date of invoice, unless otherwise specified in an agreement with Sun.

How do I get an invoice?

An invoice for Sun purchases will be sent to you regardless of the selected payment method. If a credit card has been used as payment method, it will not be charged until the order has shipped.

What if I am tax-exempt?

If your order qualifies for tax-exempt status, select the Tax Exempt button during the check out process.

To qualify for tax-exempt status, Sun must be provided a copy of the appropriate state sales tax exemption certificate. Click here to obtain the appropriate certificate and instructions.

The following are subject to tax-exempt status.

U.S. Government - Sales to the United States Government and its agencies are not subject to tax.

State Government - Sales to state governments, their political subdivisions, and their agencies are generally not subject to tax. However, some states do require the collection of sales taxes. Fax a copy of the state-issued exemption certificate to 1-678-826-0964 (U.S. only), attention: Customer Administration.

Nonprofit Organizations - Sales to charitable, religious, or educational nonprofit organizations are generally not subject to tax. However, some states do require the collection of sales taxes. Fax a copy of the state-issued exemption certificate to 1-678-826-0964 (U.S. only), attention: Customer Administration.

Direct Pay Permit Holders - Sales to "purchase with direct payment permits" are not subject to tax. Fax a copy of the Direct Pay Permit certificate to 1-678-826-0964 (U.S. only), attention: Customer Administration.

Reseller - Sales for resale are not subject to tax if properly supported by a valid resale exemption certificate stating the purchase is "For Resale." Requirements of a valid resale certificate are: date, purchaser's name and address, purchaser's seller's permit number, description of the property to be purchased, and the signature (ink) of an authorized agent of the purchaser. The resale certificates should be for the states to which the products are being shipped. Fax a copy of this certificate to 1-678-826-0964 (U.S. only), attention: Customer Administration.

Exempt Use Certificate Holders - Sales to an organization that is taxable but is purchasing the property to be used in an exempt manner (manufacturing, industrial processing, research & development, etc.) are not subject to tax. Fax a copy of this certificate to 1-678-826-0964 (U.S. only), attention: Customer Administration.

Sales to an organization making purchases that fall within the exemption(s) provided by law are not subject to tax. Send an original signed (ink) exempt use certificate to the address below. Fax a copy of this certificate to 1-678-826-0964 (U.S. only), attention: Customer Administration.

4. Shipping Information

What shipping methods does Sun use?

For online purchases, Sun offers a choice of Ground (3-5 business days), 2nd business day, and next-day business day service levels through Sun-chosen carriers. When using Sun's chosen carrier, shipping charges are based on the total weight of order, and service level chosen. These charges will be reflected at the time of check out when an order is placed.

Can I get a partial shipment?

If one or more items ordered is temporarily unavailable to ship, customers may receive the items that are available immediately by requesting a partial shipment. The balance of the items in the order will be delivered as soon as they become available. Shipping charges will be adjusted on the invoice to reflect partial shipments. Contact a Sun Store representative, 1-800-SUN-0404, or email store-oa@sun.com , to arrange partial shipment. Include the transaction number (Example: 2345671) of your order in all correspondence.

5. Your Sun Online Account

What are the benefits of opening a Sun online account?

By opening a Sun online account, you can take full advantage of the following:

  • Log in to other Sun sites such as My Sun Connection, SunSolve, the Sun Download Center
  • Request a quote from a Sun Authorized Reseller
  • For returning customers, account information will automatically be used to fill in purchasing information at the time of checkout
  • View a history of your online orders

How do I open a Sun account?

Select the Register Now link and follow the on-screen instructions. It will take one business day for a new account to become active. Purchases can still be made. Password updates take effect immediately. Updates to Contact information will take one business day for the new information to be processed.

Do I get special discounts online with my Sun account?

No, pricing that is displayed online is US list price.

What if I have trouble logging in?

If you forgot your password or are having difficulty logging in, call 1-800-SUN-0404 or complete this form for assistance.

What if I am a non-U.S. customer?

How does Sun protect my information during a purchase?

Access to Sun account information is available only when the username and password are entered correctly. Credit card information is protected during transmission by a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connection. If using an Internet browser that supports the SSL protocol, then encryption and authentication technology ensure order information is protected with the highest levels of security available on the web.
